GREEN COMM CALL FOR SPEAKERS

GREENCOMM AWARD MEXICO 2008 * EXPO COMM MEXICO 2009

EXPO COMM MEXICO 2009 invites all ICT companies with operations in Mexico to participate to win a
GREEN COMM AWARD MEXICO 2009 award.

Objective
The objective of the GREEN COMM AWARD MEXICO is to recognize environmentally responsible ICT companies that have implemented practices or programs that benefit the environment in Mexico.

The GREEN COMM AWARD MEXICO 2009 award is given by an advisory council made up of representatives of private organizations and government agencies in Mexico's environmental sector, such as: the Secretaría de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales (Secretariat of the Environment and Natural Resources / SEMARNAT), Consejo Nacional de Industriales Ecologistas de Mexico (National Green Industrialists Council / CONIECO), Procuraduría Federal de Protección al Ambiente (Federal Environmental Protection Agency / PROFEPA), Consejo Coordinador Empresarial (Coordinating Council for Businesses / CÉSPEDES), Confederación de Cámaras Industriales (Confederation of Industrial Chambers of Commerce / CONCAMIN), Comisión para la Cooperación Ambiental (Commission on Environmental Cooperation / CCA), Confederación Patronal de la República Mexicana (Sponsors' Confederation of the Mexican Republic / COPARMEX), and the Global Environmental Management Initiative (GEMI).

Information
1. Requirements

Any national and foreign ICT companies with initiatives and activities in Mexico may participate in GREEN COMM AWARD MEXICO 2009.

Participants may not be involved in pending administrative proceedings on environmental matters; if they are, they must demonstrate that the technical measures enacted have been stopped.

Participants must provide a statement that no conflicts or legal disputes exist with any authority or court that would run counter to the spirit of GREEN COMM AWARD MEXICO 2009 or affect its credibility.

A company participating in GREEN COMM AWARD MEXICO 2009 may not participate the following year unless it presents a new initiative.

Failure to comply with any of the above requirements will warrant automatic disqualification from the competition.

2. Categories

The GREEN COMM AWARD MEXICO 2009 will be given under the following criteria:

  • Companies that are developing equipment, products or systems with elements or components that help conserve and protect the environment.

  • Companies that are applying programs for managing and re-using technological waste.

  • Companies that are participating in environmental initiatives.

Participants in the first category may be private organizations that manufacture equipment or systems inside or outside of the country and sell them in Mexico.

Participants in the second category may be private manufacturers of equipment or systems or other companies that are applying programs of this type.

Participants in the third category may be private organizations that are sponsoring programs that promote social responsibility and care of the environment (technological disposal programs, recycled products, energy efficiency, non-toxic devices, preservation of flora and fauna) that merit special recognition and are not in competition with the first two categories.

3. Presentation of proposals

Proposals must be accompanied by written, verifiable information and documentation on the program being presented for consideration.

The proposal must be accompanied by the following documents:

  • Letter of Application. Must contain complete information on the company, the category in which it is participating (companies may participate in all three categories), the activities that deserve to be recognized, and the contact person's name, address, telephone number and e-mail address.

  • Letter of Declaration. In this letter the company certifies that no administrative proceedings on environmental issues are pending and that no conflicts or legal disputes exist with any authority or court that would run counter to the spirit of GREEN COMM AWARD MEXICO 2009 or affect its credibility.

  • Summary Document. Participating companies must send a document of no more than two pages in length containing a general description of the program or project that includes the objectives, scope, and benefits achieved or expected.

  • Full-Length Document. Participating companies must present a document of no more than ten pages in length containing the background, objectives, and scope of the program, environmental elements that are being preserved or improved, concrete actions that have been taken, processes or methodologies being applied, results achieved and the verifiable benefits of the program.

  • Supporting Material. To strengthen the impact of the presentation, participants are encouraged to include printed, audiovisual or graphic materials, publications, and if they are available, testimonies of support that vouch for the program.

4. Evaluation of proposals

The applicants' practices must address a genuine challenge for the organization's competitiveness and comprehensive sustainability and contain key strategies for keeping all areas of the company focused on improved environmental performance, including evidence of communication of environmental values to the employees and the results or progress made in its environmental performance indicators.

An important aspect to consider is whether the practices submitted for consideration are being applied within the organization and whether they also are projected externally so that they become public knowledge.

The programs, initiatives or projects presented must have been initiated and applied no more than 24 months prior to the date of the competition.

They must have a life cycle that shows that the company is taking a specific initiative that is delivering results.

Proposals will be evaluated in accordance with the following list of values:
PARAMETERS
Originality, creativity, scope of the programs
Prevention of environmental contamination
Scope and benefits of activities implemented to strengthen the
       pro-environment culture
Reduction of risk and environmental vulnerability
Social environmental responsibility
Application in the value chain
Performance indicators

6. The awards

The jury's decisions are not subject to appeal. When appropriate, the jury may eliminate one or more categories if, in its judgment, the respective proposals do not have sufficient merit; in this case it may grant honorable mentions, with a maximum of one per category.

Any case not discussed in this Call for proposals will be presented by the Technical Secretariat for Recognition to the members of the jury for resolution.

Recognition will consist of a special award piece, except companies who participate in Category Three will receive a diploma. The awards ceremony will be held as a part of EXPO COMM MEXICO 2009.

Winning participants will receive the GREEN COMM AWARD MEXICO 2009 and may make use of the logo on its stationery, facilities, vehicles and products, with the understanding that E.J. Krause de México, in allowing the use of said logo or seal, neither endorses nor guarantees in any way the product or service being sold by the organization. Additionally, a press release with the results of GREEN COMM AWARD MEXICO 2009 will be sent out with a mention of each winner's environmentally responsible practices in technology.

After the awards ceremony, a press conference will be held for the winners to share and publicize their environmental experiences.
