The Shanghai Municipal People's Government has designated ELECOMM/EXPO COMM SHANGHAI as the region's premier event for the telecommunications sector to fuel Shanghai's continued telecommunications development and showcase the region's advancements in the industry. Renamed CHINA ELECOMM, in reference to the first telecommunications event held in Shanghai in 1987, the event is being hosted by the Informatization Commission of Shanghai Municipal People's Government, Mr. Wu Ji-chun, former Minister of Ministry of Information Industry visiting the show.Shanghai Communications Administration Bureau, Council for the Promotion of International Trade Shanghai, China Telecom Group Shanghai Telecom Corp., Shanghai Mobile Communications Co., and China Unicom Shanghai Branch. CHINA ELECOMM will be organized by Shanghai International Exhibition Co. and co-organized by E.J. Krause & Associates, Inc. and have the full support of Shanghai's most influential government organizations and industry associations.

Shanghai continues to lead China in telecommunications and IT development. Shanghai will have over 8.3 million phone users and 13 million mobile users by 2005. Additionally, over US$10 billion in investment is expected to flow into Shanghai over the next few years. The Shanghai Municipal People's Government hopes to ease market access and increase cooperation between international manufacturers and local carriers by reducing the number of events in the region and assembling the support of all relevant government and industry organizations behind CHINA ELECOMM.
