WHERE IS BUENOS AIRES LOCATED?
The Autonomous City of Buenos Aires is the capital city of the Republic of Argentina and the key center of the province of Buenos Aires, with a population of more than 15 million inhabitants. It is one of the ten most densely populated urban centers in the world. Towards the East and the South, the Río de la Plata and the Riachuelo comprise Buenos Aires natural limits. The rest of the metropolitan perimeter is flanked by the General Paz Avenue, which represents the limits of the City from North to West and provides a fast connection between the City and the suburbs, the Grand Buenos Aires.
The City of Buenos Aires connects with the other provinces and abroad through an ample transportation system that includes a port that receives cruises and ferries, two airports, railway connections, highways, national roads, and a passengers’ transportation terminal only a kilometer away from the center of the city.
CLIMATE
Annual average temperatures vary around 18º degree Celsius, so extremely cold or hot days are not frequent, and it is possible to go for a walk around the City at all seasons. In the winter, the coldest month is July, with average temperatures around 3ºC and 8ºC, but frosts are rare. In the winter one usually goes out with wool coats, jackets or overcoats and scarves. During summer, the heat is humid and the average temperature is 28°C. At night, temperatures slightly decrease, and people wear light clothes, without need of wearing coats. The annual average rainfall is 1.146 mm. Fall (from March 21st to June 20th) and spring (from September 21st to December 20th) are the seasons when it rains the most. During hot months, rains are brief or mere drizzles; it is unlikely that they impede the normal development of activities and people may wear just light clothes and raincoat or umbrellas.
ACCOMODATIONS
Buenos Aires' capacity to provide accommodations to visitors is reflected in its more than 450 establishments, 25,500 rooms and 52,000 beds.
Most hotels – of all categories – are located at the center of the City, where all the most visited tourist attractions and the financial and business center stand. And yet, the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires also presents hotels and accommodation all along the way, which can be easily accessed through an extensive transport system.
The main gate for arrival and departure of Provinces' and neighboring countries' flights is the airport of Jorge Newbery, located at the North Riverside Path of the City (Costanera Norte), five minutes away from town. For flights from/to other other parts of the world, the main airport is the International Airport of Ezeiza, located fifteen minutes from the center of the City by highway.
Traveling inside Buenos Aires is very easy. Its five subways (better known as “subtes”) converge at the center of the city (“microcentro”). Taxis are another good option to move around the city. There are more than 32,000 taxis on the streets. Taxis’ tariffs result from an initial price and an additional price established according to the distance driven and the time employed.
Another quick and cheap way to travel around is the bus, one of the most used means of transportation when it comes to moving around the Federal Capital City and the suburbs of Buenos Aires (Grand Buenos Aires). There are more than a hundred lines of buses that travel all around the city, connecting the city with all areas of the Grand Buenos Aires. Renting a car is also a good choice, especially for those people who desire more comfort and independence during their stay in the City.
EXCHANGE RATE
Argentina is governed by an exchange system favorable to foreign tourism. Foreign currencies can be changed at exchange offices and banks. Many shops in Buenos Aires accept credits cards, dollars, euros, pesos and travelers checks.
